I've been writing for print media in some capacity for more than 20 years now. Between 1984 and 1998 I covered the arts and entertainment beat for the La Crosse Tribune. From 1998 to 2000, I was editor-in-chief of The New Brewer, a Boulder-based trade magazine for the microbrewing industry. Many have questioned why I ever left that job. But I did and have been a senior editor and photographer for Randall-Reilly Publishing ever since. I started my daily blog in June 2009.

Armed with a few guitar chords, a cheap cassette recorder and delusions of rockstardom, I started writing songs in the 1980s. The catalog is up to 200 plus now, recorded by several bands. I think the best ones combine the observational skills I learned as a journalist with my smart-aleck sense of humor. The most popular is probably Road Construction, recorded with the Bean Hoy band. A Wisconsin State Journal columnist even made a case for making it the official state tourism theme song!
