THE CITY AT NIGHT is a multimedia art project by Mike Starling featuring street photography with spoken word, moving pictures and electric guitar.
THE CITY AT NIGHT film was produced as a companion piece to a 2016 group art exhibit by three Midwest photographers. Titled "Shifting Focus," the exhibit showcased the work of Starling, Terry Nirva and Carol Erickson. Starling's contribution was nighttime urban landscapes. The film expands on his work in the exhibition with additional images captured on the streets of Milwaukee, Chicago, Cleveland and Ocala, Florida. It also includes live action videography shot in the city of Chicago and is paired with a spoken word piece by Starling and one of his original electric guitar recordings.
Additional remixes of the original music track were released on 2/22/2022. They're available for streaming and download at Starling's Bandcamp page.
Mike Starling's original music is heard on numerous recordings and soundtracks, and his stories and photos have been featured in books, films, mags and other media.
